What
is Cryptainer?
Cryptainer is a simple easy to use software that creates an encrypted virtual
drive, provides password protection and hides any file or folder ensuring file
encryption, automatically. Its powerful 448-bit encryption ensures that only
you can access your data. Cryptainer PE creates a volume that can only be
accessed with a password. This volume stores files in the encrypted form. This
Cryptainer drive is like any other drive you normally work with. It functions
like any other drive (C: or D:) on your computer. Just drag and drop any file
into the Cryptainer Volume. It is automatically encrypted. It's that simple!
Cryptainer files can only be viewed, accessed, browsed or modified by the user
who has the key to open it. At other times, the files are invisible!
It can be transported (moved/copied) to any location (another folder, another
drive or even to a CD). It combines ease of use with state-of-the-art
technology to ensure total security, zero learning curve and maximum
convenience! Cryptainer PE offers true on-the-fly disk encryption making sure
that absolutely anyone can use it effectively! What you get is foolproof,
hassle-free, unbreakable computer security.
It runs on all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of MS Windows (95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 as well as Windows 8).
It runs as a special Windows device driver operating on a 448 bit
implementation of the Blowfish algorithm in Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) mode
with a block size of 64 bits and conforms to international standards.
What
kind of encryption does Cryptainer use?
Cryptainer supports Blowfish at 448 bits in cipher block chaining mode with a
block size of 64 bits, as well as, AES at 256 bits. Blowfish remains one of
the most difficult to crack algorithms. As for AES, according to NIST (National
Institute of Standards and Technology) a machine that could crack a 56 bit DES
key in one second will take 149 trillion years to break a 128 bit AES key.
What
do I need to know to use Cryptainer?
Nothing.!. If you can use the Windows Explorer, you can use Cryptainer. There
is really nothing you need to learn.
Why
do I need Cryptainer?
Because it is the easiest way to ensure privacy of your data. Cryptainer
guarantees the sanctity of your data by harnessing the power of a 448 bit
encryption algorithm that would take all the computers in the world working
together more than the age of the universe to decipher. Using Cryptainer, you
can secure your data, be it in any form - textual, graphical, audio or video.
Can
I install and run programs from a Cryptainer drive?
Yes. When installing, at the drive prompt, simply specify the Cryptainer drive
as the path. Your program will be loaded within the Cryptainer drive. After
unloading the volume, the program is completely inaccessible.
Can
I create multiple drives?
Cryptainer PE does not allow for multiple volumes, but Cryptainer allows for
the creation of as many Cryptainer drives as you need.
What
happens in case of a drive crash?
Hard drives, like any other piece of electronic equipment, crash for a variety
of reasons.Under some circumstances, data can be recovered from hard disks that
have crashed. This depends on the nature of the crash and the physical
condition of the hard disk. Regular backups are the only answer, as in the case
of all computer data.
We, very strongly, recommend routine backups of all important data including
Cryptainer volume files as the onlyh secure way of ensuring the safetyh of your
data. Additional security is provided by the fact that even the backups are
encrypted and absolutelyh secure. You can mail/store them without any worries.
What
happens to my data when Cryptainer is uninstalled?
Even if Cryptainer is uninstalled the encrypted volume will stay intact. The
security of your data is not jeopardised in any way. Please do note that you
will not be able to access the data in the volume unless you have a copy of
Cryptainer.
Can
I move my data to a CD-ROM Drive?
You can make encrypted volumes of any size as the case may be. These volumes
behave like any windows folder and can be moved/copied from anywhere to
anywhere (including CD, another HDD, portable HDD etc..) You can copy
Cryptainer volumes directly on the CD/CDRW/Floppies,USB Drives etc.
I
need to send some confidential data to my associate. Does he/she also need a
copy of the program?
No. You have one of two methods to be able to do so. You can make a
self-extracting encrypted file and mail it to your associate. All he or she has
to do to access the data is enter the password. In order to help your associate
guess the password, you can use the riddle field which is not encrypted and
helps the associate guess the password.
Can
I create multiple drives?
Yes. You can create as many Cryptainer drives as you need. Each drive can have
a different name and different password.
How
many Cryptainer drives can I load at one time?
You can load up to four Cryptainer drives at a time
